The Look Alike Appeal

A painting of Davy Crockett shows similarities to his descendant Ted Crockett.
WHEN WE CARRIED a small item in the March/April 2001 issue showing the strikingly similar appearances of distant relatives, we were hoping for a modest response. The response was amazing! Clearly significant similarities are not that uncommon and the likenesses can be extraordinary.
As far as we know, no formal study has been undertaken of this phenomenon.
We would very much like to hear from readers who have examples in their own family showing very similar appearance — though few are likely to be as marked as that shown here. For this exercise, we are not interested in close relationships. The subjects should not share more than one eighth the same blood. Great grandparents, second cousins or more remote relationships definitely qualify.
