Old Photographs - Appeal for Contributions
Please
Note Updated Guidelines for Sending Photos Below*
In August 2000, we printed 10,000 copies of Family Chronicle's
book Dating Old Photographs - our stocks are now
down to the last few hundred. We could reprint the book as
it is but instead have decided to produce an improved second
edition.
The new edition will feature a comprehensive explanation about
how to use the published pictures, as well as a history of
the photographic processes, information on early copying,
changes in how people thought about photographs and how they
dressed for the occasion.
As with the first edition, we are appealing to Family Chronicle
readers for help and input. We are looking for photographs
with known dates. Please do not submit photographs without
a known date (although plus or minus two years is acceptable).
We are also looking for unusual photographs even if the date
is not known. For example photographs showing people wearing
national costumes, photographs which have been hand colored
or photographs in which the clothing seems to have been drawn
onto the image later.
We will send two copies of the book, when it is published,
to everyone whose pictures are used. Copies of the book will
be kept in the National Archives of the US and Canada and
microfilmed copies are stored in other archives, so this is
as sure a way as possible to ensure that your images are securely
archived forever.
* How to submit:
E-mail: We much prefer e-mail: please send
to photos@familychronicle.com.
• Images should be scanned at no less than 200
dots per inch (and no more than 300 dpi) and they
should be sent as JPEG images at medium

• PLEASE LIMIT YOUR E-MAIL TO ONE PHOTO PER
MESSAGE AND ATTACHMENTS LESS THAN 1 MEGABYTE IN SIZE IF POSSIBLE.
We having been receiving many messages with multiple attachments

overloaded. Use more than one message if necessary
